What’s in a Breath?

Awareness; bring it on.

slow it Down

For many of us, when life slows down, our minds seize on the opportunity to speed up. High-speed thoughts can easily become a high-speed roadway to big emotions. Runaway emotions are often reality-distorting.

It only takes a minute

If you’ve got a minute to spare, you can get a grip. It all starts with awareness of what’s going on with your body. Close your eyes, take a deep breath. Notice any sensations. Where are they in your body? What are physical senses? Tightness, fluttering, tingling, heat, or cold?

Breathe. Notice you are breathing in. Notice you are breathing out.

If you want to take one more step to understand what initiated the big feelings, reflect. Write down your reflection. Don’t judge yourself as you do this. Don’t judge anything. Just Notice.

Feelings are always valid; what causes them is not always true or real, but all feelings are valid.

Investigate why you are feeling that way. Is what you believe true? Is it really true?

Offer yourself compassion.

Repeat.
